In your twenties, your skin already has a naturally glowing and youthful look. You may not prioritize your skin since it is already young, but creating a skincare routine for the future can help you deal with issues that may arise. You don’t have to have a lengthy routine, but simple practices will have you thanking yourself later. Here is how to take care of your skin in your 20s.

Remove Your Makeup

After a long day or night out, taking your makeup off is the last thing you want to do. Falling asleep in makeup occasionally won’t hurt but making it a habit is when things go wrong.

Your makeup blocks your pores and traps the oil inside. This allows bacteria to build up while stretching your pores, leading to breakouts. Find an oil-based cleanser or micellar water to buff away your makeup at the end of the day.

Wear Sunscreen Everyday

You may be tired of hearing this, but it still holds true. Wearing sunscreen daily is one of the best ways to preserve your skin. Almost all signs of aging come from unprotected UV exposure.

Finding the right sunscreen may take time. There are tinted, mineral, expensive and more options to explore that fit your lifestyle better. You can even use makeup that already has sunscreen in them. BB and CC creams use sunscreen in their products, so if you want coverage with it, too, this may be your best option.

Find the Right Cleanser

There are so many cleanser options available it can be overwhelming to choose the right one. Depending on if your skin is dry, oily, combination or sensitive, each product is designed to help each specific skin type.

As a teenager, you probably used products to fight acne and oil, but your oil glands shrink as you age. Your go-to products may be too intense for you now, which can cause irritation and flaking. Adult acne can be treated more gently without harsh cleansers and intense scrubbing. Find products that work for your new skin type and don’t cause redness or breakouts.

Invest in a Retinol

A vitamin A derivative is a great way to fight the signs of aging since it increases cell production. If you are new to using retinol, you can use it every other night instead of every night since it can dry out your skin. Sunscreen use is essential the next day since your cell turnover is sped up.

You can get this in a prescription from your dermatologist or a gentler version of them in the beauty aisle. They are mixed with other products like niacinamide to decrease irritation.

Avoid Pimple Popping

The satisfaction from popping your pimples is unbeatable, but it can harm your skin. It can potentially lead to permanent scarring or long-term dark spots or discoloration. It is best to use creams on them and let them go away on their own.

The Bottom Line

Taking care of your skin is essential for every year of life. Taking steps to prevent issues in the future is better than dealing with them when you are older. Take care of your skin in your twenties and you will be thanking yourself later.
