When you’re struggling with skincare problems, your self-confidence likely plummets. Take control of your appearance by reading about the best skin care routine for dry skin. You’ll banish flakes, redness and dry patches using the right ingredients every morning or night.

1. Start With a Cleansing Oil

You might pause at the idea of applying oil on your face to improve your appearance, but it significantly helps dry, sensitive skin. It’s also a technique that’s been around for a long time. Korean beauty experts have used facial oils to reduce the appearance of aging and achieve hydrated, supple skin since before it became popular in the past few years.

All you need to do is find a cleansing oil with a brand you prefer. It could be a makeup remover product, something that uses essential oils or a formula designed for skin therapy. As long as it’s oil-based, it will hydrate your skin cells and start the healing process.

2. Exfoliate Once a Week

Anyone who battles flaking skin has likely formed an exfoliating habit within their skincare routine. Scrubbing your face will remove the dry patches that lead to embarrassment, but it also strips your skin of natural oils and its pH balance.

Try exfoliating only once a week to give your skin time to recover. When you want to enjoy a luxurious scrub, you can always make one with organic cleansing grains to create a gentler exfoliating product.

3. Spray a Balancing Toner

After cleansing your skin with healthy oils or exfoliating, it’s an excellent time to apply a pH-balancing toner. It brings your skin back to its natural acidic balance that retains moisture while repelling bacteria that cause acne or eczema. Pat toner onto your face with cotton balls or spray it and massage it slowly into your pores to keep dry skin problems at bay.

4. Choose a Moisturizing Serum

Lotion is excellent for dry skin, but serums are more helpful for dehydrated cells. A moisturizing serum has highly concentrated ingredients that immediately hydrate your cells without needing to trap existing moisture to create positive results.

Apply a hydrating serum at least once daily after the toner dries on your face. It should absorb quickly and provide noticeable results within a few days. You can also look for an SPF serum to prevent sun exposure from drying out your skin and causing other problems like burns or skin cancer.

5. Avoid Drying Ingredients

Preventing your skin problems from reappearing will require a bit of research. Sometimes moisturizing products with labels that promise they’re safe for sensitive skin use drying ingredients. Try to avoid anything that uses drying agents like:

  • Retinoids
  • Alcohol
  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Preservatives
  • Salicylic acid

Skin care products that don’t include these ingredients won’t bother natural dry skin cells. These may be the ingredients currently causing dryness to be a constant battle in your current routine.

Create a Great Skin Care Routine for Dry Skin

Formulating a skincare routine for dry skin isn’t impossible with tips like these. Analyze your current preferred products to see if they include ingredients that dry your skin cells. You can always replace them with alternatives like toners and serums, then use them in the right order to treat your skin with a new routine that heals every cell.
