Keeping your lips soft and smooth can be challenging. Dry lips can occur for various reasons like dehydration, allergies, sunburn, persistent licking and more. Lips are not the most efficient when retaining moisture. It is essential to have a lip scrub to clear all the dead skin cells before applying lip balm. Homemade lip scrubs are a safer option since you avoid products that may include harsh chemicals. Here are five homemade lip scrub recipes.
Benefits of Lip Scrubs
Exfoliating your body and face is common, but no one ever talks about the lips. There are many reasons why you should consider lip scrubs, such as the weather or your age.
Lips can become thinner as you age due to the loss of collagen. Scrubs can smooth lip lines and encourage blood flow to help fight aging. When you remove the dead skin around the lips, it reduces dullness and dryness. With proper ingredients, a lips scrub will provide hydration, moisture and exfoliation.
Homemade Lip Scrub Recipes
Your lips have sensitive skin compared to other areas. You will want to use softer ingredients from a traditional body scrub. Some ingredients will overlap, but most will want to include finer-grained ingredients like sugar or coffee. Here are some options to choose from when making a homemade lip scrub.
1. Basic Scrub
For a quick and straightforward scrub, you will only need two ingredients that are lying around your house. All you need to do is combine honey and double the ratio of sugar and mix till combined. It might take time to work it in, but it is ready to go once they are intertwined.
2. Honey-Coconut Scrub
To add extra moisture, mix coconut and olive oil with honey. You will need honey, softened coconut oil and vanilla bean powder mixed well. Add coconut sugar until evenly combined. Stir in the olive oil and keep it stored in an airtight container.
3. Sugar Scrub
Not only does this scrub work great, but it also tastes amazing. To gain the softness back into your lips, you will need finely ground sugar, olive oil, honey and an essential oil of your choice. Once they are thoroughly combined, it is ready to be used.
4. Coffee Scrub
For coffee lovers, this scrub not only exfoliates but also moisturizes. The simple and easy ingredients can be found in your home. All you need is finely ground coffee and sugar mixed with your choice of coconut, olive or jojoba oil. Add a little bit of honey to the mixture and it is done.
5. Cinnamon Scrub
This lip scrub is for you if you want to plump your lips while scrubbing away dead skin. Cinnamon is not only a natural exfoliator but a lip plumper too. For plump and smooth lips, make this scrub.
Combine the ground cinnamon powder with honey and olive oil in a bowl. Mix well and gently apply to fingertips to buff off the dead skin. Rinse with lukewarm water and use your favorite moisturizer.
The Bottom Line
Taking care of your lips is just as important as the other skin on your body. Be sure to exfoliate them once or twice a week to ensure they have a soft and moisturized look.
