You’re here because you’re probably thinking about splurging on a pair of Uggs. I know the feeling. They look cozy, stylish and definitely expensive. But are Ugg slippers worth it? Here’s my no-frills review.
What Are Ugg Slippers?
Ugg slippers are manufactured by UGG — an American fashion brand primarily known for its plush, sheepskin boots. This footwear has been quite famous for some time — with celebrities like Irina Shayk, Gigi Hadid, Olivia Culpo and Selena Gomez wearing them. Thanks to their comfort and versatility, ugg slippers are now one of the most coveted pairs in the industry.
UGG has been a go-to brand for me. I used to pair my boots with a denim skirt and flannel top and my best friends would tell me I look fabulous. UGG boots became a defining fashion statement in the early 2000s. However, somewhere down the line, people stopped using them.
Since we’re shifting to much colder weather nowadays, I was searching for the most comfortable slippers. Enter Ugg slippers — everybody loves them but finds them too pricey for comfy footwear.
Why Are Ugg Slippers so Expensive?
Unlike traditional flip-flops and slip-ons, UGG slippers are made of superior quality. The company uses the highest-grade sheepskin, providing the comfort they are famous for. For instance, a Grade-A sheepskin offers a soft and dense feel, providing durability and comfort for years. The material is also breathable and moisture resistant, unlike lesser quality materials that can be scratchy and non-breathable.
It’s easy to clean and style. The Women’s Tasman Slipper is priced at $110 on the official website. It’s a bit more expensive than my favorite L.L.Bean’s Wicked Good Moccasins — a pair of shearling slippers also making rounds on the Internet nowadays.
How Do They Feel?
Among the new-generation Uggs, I tried the Tasman slipper. The below-ankle, unisex style is ideal for errands, short walks and long flights. Unlike flats that tend to slide on tiled floors, the tread on the Ugg’s sole is very impressive. I’ve worn them outside on snow-covered streets and didn’t worry about slipping.
They’re irresistibly cushiony and soft when worn — as if your feet are being hugged on a chilly winter evening. The outer material is a durable leather composition that is not too firm to ensure comfort while walking. Unlike typical slippers, it has a thick rubber sole base designed to withstand being used on several surfaces, such as grass, concrete or even snow, as I previously mentioned.
What Does the Public Say About It?
If a pair of Ugg slippers has been on your cart for some time, you might wonder if they are worth it. Despite the expensive price tag, it looks like everyone agrees it’s worth it. Check out these reviews in the subreddit r/fashion:
User @thelegendofkatee thinks that they last years and made a recommendation about sizing:
“I’ve been wearing uggs for years! They last really well and they’re SO comfortable! However, I recommend sizing down because they tend to stretch. I also recommend buying the care kit for them and waterproofing them. They’re worth the money.”
User @ButternutSquawk immediately noticed the difference between the fake and the original pairs.
“I purchased the Ugg mini dupes on Amazon and one year later they aren’t looking great. I only wear it around the house/while traveling. I purchased the UGG Tasman as a gift to myself for getting a raise, and the difference in looks and textures are immediately noticeable.”
User @Middle_Process_215 shared a hack about wearing the slippers.
“The real Uggs are well worth the money. They last and feel heavenly! Just don’t wear them two days in a row because they need time to dry out between wearings.”
Final Verdict: Are Ugg Slippers Worth It?
In almost a month of owning the popular Tasman uggs, here’s my two cents:
Sizing
You need to size down from your current shoe size. I’m usually an 8.5 to 9 in shoes, but I have a narrow foot so I sized down to 8 — it fits me well perfectly! I also recommend sizing down because it’ll expand as you use it.
Fit
Wearing ugg slippers feels like putting on a pair of boots. You can’t simply slide them, so don’t be surprised if they feel too tight. The pair is very snug — it’s comfortable and fits my feet naturally. I personally love how relaxed the snug fit feels — it’s not too restrictive yet loose at the same time — perfect for cozying up inside or outside the home!
Ways to Style
The ugg slippers are worth it because they are easy to style if you’re all about comfort. It has become a staple in this year’s trending fashion items, beloved for its versatility. Here are some ways I styled my Uggs:
- Jeans: Wide-leg or straight-leg jeans are a classic pair for Tasman slippers. Their relaxed fit is perfect for casual wear. Pair them with a chunky knit sweater or oversized blazer. A button-down shirt also never fails to impress — you can use it at the office or in casual settings.
- Dress: A sweater or flowy midi dress works perfectly with Ugg slippers. If you want a more structured style, opt for a wrap or shirt dress to complement the bulky silhouette of your footwear.
- Skirt: Pair your Uggs with a mini skirt and tights for a youthful appeal. A corduroy or denim skirt works well for a casual, school-inspired outfit. A cozy sweater or oversized blazer can make your ensemble look put-together.
The Downsides
These everyday slippers have some negative aspects, too. These are not dealbreakers for me, but they’re worth considering before purchasing.
- Suede exterior can stain
- Not waterproof, so you need a spray protector
- It sells out quickly
- Not suitable for long walks
Where to Shop
Remember, these comfortable sneakers sell out fast. If your size is available, grab it as soon as you can.
If you’re into the coquette aesthetic, you can never go wrong with this pair. It’s comfortable, lightweight and easy to slip on and off. It’s lined with sheepskin to warm your cold feet.
Splurge on a Pair Today
Ugg slippers are worth it — they’re comfortable, durable and easy to style. If you’re looking for a luxurious, long-lasting pair that’ll keep your feet toasty warm all winter, then this might be the way to go.
