Traveling alone can increase your self-confidence, give you more freedom and reduce distractions on your vacation. Solo travel can empower you to gain a new perspective and encourage self-discovery.

When you travel alone, you might be stretching your boundaries and stepping out of your comfort zone, but it’s so worth it. Here are some worthwhile solo travel destinations in the USA that can expand your horizons.

Vail, Colorado

Vail, Colorado is the perfect place to travel solo because it has everything you could dream of on vacation. The breathtaking mountain views and spas can inspire you to relax, reset and recharge. There’s an outdoor heated pool at the Four Seasons Vail where you can take in the sights and soak simultaneously.

The ski slopes offer some adventure as does the party-like atmosphere that Vail provides. Aspen is a little more low-key if you’re looking for a more chill vibe for your travels with similar amenities. Unlike other ski towns, Vail offers fantastic dining options in Vail Village so you can satisfy your hunger cravings after you hit the slopes or hiking trails.

Asheville, North Carolina

Asheville is the quintessential place for art lovers and all things quirky. It would be an excellent place to visit on a budget since there’s so many free sights to see and things to explore. There are so many local options to keep you entertained.

You’ll love the independent book stores and the Western North Carolina Cheese Trail, which is a collection of creameries. The River Arts District is a must-see comprised of local artists of different mediums and their work. Exploring this neightborhood and experiencing the art sounds like a dream solo, but you can take a guided tour led by an artist.

Mackinac Island

Experience some Michigan magic at this island off Michigan’s Lake Huron coastline. This island is famous for being free of vehicles to preserve the natural land. You can ride in a horse-drawn carriage or ride a bike to sight-see and learn about their rich history.

They have ferry boat rides, yacht races and gorgeous scenic coast views. You can ride a bike the entire length of the island, which is roughly eight miles long or go hiking or kayaking. Don’t forget to try their delicious fudge that everyone raves about! Mackinac Island gives off throwback vibes that make it perfect for a solo trip.

San Francisco, California

San Fransisco is another quirky place to visit that everyone should experience at least once, making it one of the best solo travel destinations in the USA. This city is walkable, but there are many steep hills for which you’ll probably want transportation. The Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf are must-see attractions. Fisherman’s Wharf has excellent dining options, activities, shops and a view of Alcatraz.

There are art museums to explore, cable cars to ride and free walking tours of the San Francisco bay. San Francisco has excellent weather year-round that rarely exceeds 83 degrees or falls below 39 degrees. You might also want to visit Chinatown and experience the culture of that part of the city as well. You’ll likely never get bored with so much to do and see in this city.
