The right beauty routine is as essential as avoiding skin care mistakes. If you want great skin, your daily habits make a difference. Achieving better skin is easier than you think. Clear, healthy skin does not require an expensive routine or plastic surgery. Although skin can be affected by genetics, your skin care routine can make a difference.

It is possible you are unintentionally sabotaging your chances of getting clear and glowing skin. Some habits you have may be working against you, so educating yourself on what is wrong is essential. Here are five skin care mistakes to avoid.

1. Picking Your Skin

When we see a blemish on our faces, we may be inclined to pop it to get rid of it. You may not even realize you are doing it or do it as an anxiety thing. Picking at your skin too much can cause constant irritation and inflamed skin while spreading bacteria to your other pores.

If you pick at your face too much, it can cause more breakouts from the bacteria on your hands and lead to acne scars. If this is a nervous habit, you can break it by trying to keep your hands busy doing other things.

2. Not Washing Your Face Before Bed

A morning skincare routine may seem like a ritual, but as the day ends, it can be tempting to skip washing your face. After a long tiring day, we all want to hop into bed and fall asleep immediately. Unfortunately, this is not a good idea if you want clear and healthy skin.

This is one of the worst mistakes you can make since all the dirt from your environment piles up on your makeup throughout the day. Going to sleep with makeup allows all of it to clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Not only will it contribute to that night, but it can also get on your pillowcase and keep you breaking out.

3. Skipping Sunscreen

Every day your skin works to protect you from harmful UV rays, which is why you need to use sunscreen. Wearing sunscreen is one of the best and easiest ways to keep your skin looking its best. Using sunscreen prevents sun damage that can look like sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging.

When you hear that you need sunscreen every day, that means every day. No matter if it is cloudy, raining, snowing or whatever the conditions may be, if it is daytime sunscreen should be on your face. You should also be reapplying throughout the day for the best results since its effectiveness fades throughout the day.

4. Wearing Makeup While Exercising

A common skin care mistake is forgetting to take off your makeup before your after-work gym session. If you do not take the time to wipe it off before exercising, you may break out more than usual. It can clog your pores since the sweat and makeup build-up does not allow your skin to breathe.

5. Using Products For Other Skin Types

Knowing your skin type can help your products work more effectively and help you choose the right products to buy. You may have oily, dry, sensitive or combination skin that requires different products. Take the time to find out your skin type and read labels before investing in a product.

For example, you may pick a moisturizer that is too heavy for your oily skin, eventually leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Or you may get an extremely fragranced product that easily irritates your sensitive skin. Be sure to find skincare that works for your skin type and concerns.
