Travel is good for the soul, but it can get pricey if you don’t budget and plan accordingly. The U.S. has many vacation destinations that are budget-friendly and cool to visit. Traveling within the states eliminates the need for a passport and other worries and expenses of traveling abroad. Here are some of the cheapest places to travel for inspiration for your adventures this year.
1. Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta, Georgia, is home to many top-ranked museums like the High Museum of Art and the Fernbank Museum of National History. Places like the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park offer free admission, making it an ideal place to travel on a budget to experience rich history.
The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum only cost $12 for adult admission and is another excellent place to explore history. Other must-see attractions in Atlanta are the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium. The Atlanta airport is always bustling, which makes plane tickets affordable and this city a budget-friendly option for travel.
2. San Antonio, Texas
Downtown San Antonio offers the Riverwalk and Alamo. This is one of the cheapest places to travel because you can wander around and see the sights for free. The Riverwalk is famous for its unique way of traveling the city and exploring the sights. You can visit the Rivercenter mall, built around the river flowing downtown. Or, just steps away, you can see the Alamo and experience the rich history of San Antonio.
The Riverwalk is a gorgeous place to take a stroll or ride your bike. The Riverwalk is 15 miles long and filled with tourist attractions and excellent places to eat and explore. The shopping is spectacular in the Rivercenter mall and the Historic Market Square. You can also ride in a boat to experience the San Antonio River and all it offers.
3. Branson, Missouri
Branson, Missouri, is a gorgeous town with tourist attractions for the entire family. There are budget-friendly options around every corner in Branson. You can cruise the strip of highway 76 and be amazed at all the museums and attractions for all ages.
Silver Dollar City is an amusement park that takes you back in time with roller coasters and old-timey attractions. While Silver Dollar City can get pricey, you can get discounts on tickets in various ways. Lodging makes up for the price you’d spend on tickets with so many hotels and bed and breakfasts under $125 a night!
4. Finger Lakes, New York
Finger Lakes, New York, is an excellent place to visit if you love wine but can’t afford to visit a winery in California. Vineyards in Finger Lakes offer breathtaking views and delectable wine tastings. There are always events and festivals in Finger Lakes, like The Rink at the Lake, where you can skate on a rink that feels like you’re skating on the lake!
Lodging and restaurants are inexpensive in this beautiful region, making it one of the best cheapest places to travel. Eleven lakes in uptown New York provide a family-friendly atmosphere and incredible views. You can enjoy a relaxing getaway on the lake or participate in outdoor adventures like kayaking, skiing, biking, hiking or golfing on a budget.
