What could be better?To get the most benefit out of a staycation, try implementing hygge into your time off. The word hygge generally means creating feelings of friendliness, happiness and well being. It’s about finding meaning in your life and being mindful. It is also about embracing small indulgences.Here are seven ways to make your hygge staycation as cozy and relaxing as possible.
Start a Fire
If you have a fireplace, why not start a fire to keep you warm? There’s nothing cozier than the sound of crackling wood and the warmth from a well-made fire. Make sure to use real wood to stay true to your commitment of using authentic ingredients during your hygge staycation.
Invest in Soft Blankets
If your blankets are ripped up, stained or simply cheaply made, it’s time to invest in some quality covers — but this doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. You can typically find soft, plush blankets for $20 to $30 at any sort of home goods store. It can’t hurt to stock up, either!
Light Some Candles
There’s something about dimming the lights and lighting some warm candles while you cuddle up on the couch that’s so relaxing. Tea lights are perfect for spreading the feel-good essence all throughout your home — without breaking the bank. Bake Homemade Bread
Since you aren’t using scented candles, fill your home with the smell of freshly baked bread, instead — that’s about as hygge as it gets. There’s nothing better than a slice of homemade bread straight out of the oven. Plus, making and kneading the dough is rather cathartic, too.
Bring Elements of Nature Inside
Countless studies have shown that including elements of nature in your home is an effective way to reduce your stress levels and help you relax. So, why not incorporate some of these features into your space during your hygge staycation? Whether it’s houseplants, a coffee table made from a tree or freshly picked flowers, you’ll surely benefit from bringing the outside indoors. Even exposed brick or stone walls and wooden floors can help maintain the earthy vibe you’re going for during this time.
Disconnect From Technology
This should go without saying, but try taking breaks from technology as much as possible during your hygge staycation. While it’s difficult for many of us to completely disconnect, set goals for yourself about the amount of time you can spend watching TV shows, playing video games and texting your friends.
