When the holiday time comes around, the best time of the year really begins. Don’t get me wrong, there are other great times of the year too. I love traveling during the summer to some of the best beaches and getaways, and the fall is great for hiking. But there are so many reasons to love the holiday season that no two people would have the same lists.Sometimes, though, it’s hard to get into the holiday spirit if you’re having a bad time of year. A few years ago, I was really struggling with my work schedule. It was becoming overwhelming, and as someone who loves to travel frequently, I was feeling much like a bird in a cage. The stress of my work life built up, so when the holiday season started, I had to try to get in the right mind set. If you’re finding yourself struggling too, check out some easy things I do to get in the holiday spirit.
Enjoy Some Time with Nature
When winter rolls around, nature is going through a lot of changes. Leaves are going to fall to the ground and everything ready to sleep through the cold weather. While I’d love to join them in a nap, it’s better to get out and interact with nature on a personal level.Strolling through a popular wooded pathway or letting the snow catch my eyelashes is sometimes all I need to enjoy the holidays. If I try visiting somewhere new like a ski resort, I get to see families hanging out together, and family is what the holidays are about.
Send Out Holiday Cards
There are few things that announce the arrival of the holidays like sending out holiday cards. When I was little, my mom made a big deal out of getting the family to sit down in front of a photographer for the updated holiday photo. Now, I love to put together a collage of pictures from my most recent travels. It’s especially easy to do with custom cards, and I can send them from anywhere in the world. This helps me not feel bogged down by holiday responsibilities.
Bake Cookies for Loved Ones
Making holiday cookies is a tradition that’s widely shared by people around the world. In my travel experiences, I’ve found that cookies act as an excellent bridge between cultures and languages. There are a million ways to decorate them, which also means it’s a great bonding experience for family and friends. Check out some Christmas cookie decorating ideas to get inspired!
Go To A Christmas Tree Farm
Buying a live Christmas tree versus unboxing the one that’s been bent and fluffed into place is the best option. For starters, you get to make your home smell like Christmas pine, which is intoxicating. It is something I look forward to all year. Picking out a Christmas tree is such a tradition that you can’t help but feel wrapped up in the holiday season while doing it.
Decorate the House
What may be the best way to get into the holiday spirit is decorating your living space with lights and garlands! The little things that add festive cheer to your home will brighten up any mood. Don’t have the funds this year to splurge on decorations? Try making some decor on your own! There are also places to find discounted Christmas supplies online so the holiday season isn’t draining your wallet. Getting in the holiday spirit is a different process for everyone, especially if you travel as much as I do. Even if you’re away from home, there are always ways to wrap yourself in Christmas joy. Send some cards to your loved ones or find some decorations so you and your home are both in the holiday mood. Whatever you do, enjoy it while it lasts. Just as quickly as the holidays arrived, they’ll be gone before you know it.
